Trend Fashion with Tuxedo Dressing

Janelle Monaé, is that you? The menswear-inspired pop starlet with the buttoned-up black-and-white ensembles had many a designer walking the "Tightrope" trend at the most recent New York Fashion Week.

Back in the '60s, Yves Saint Laurent pioneered this look with Le Smoking suit, an empowering tuxedo style for women. It broke nearly every rule at the time, but the androgynous way of dressing gave chic Parisians a leg up in the fashion world.

So far, the Fall 2011 season is filled with plenty of borrowed-from-the-boys attire. Alexander Wang paired a sheer bib-front dress with detailed leather trousers; Prabal Gurung sent his sassy lady down the runway in a cummerbund and grosgrain-ribbon-adorned blouse; Ralph Lauren, meanwhile, went for the full look with a head-to-toe suit replete with a bowtie and sexy red peep-toe pumps, earrings and pout.
