High-end womenswear line Verlaine, inspired by things like shadows, darkness, geometry and fluidity, has the formula. Started in New York City by Javier Garcia, this label uses distorted proportions and distressed fabrics to create gorgeous garments that take the female figure to a whole new level of beauty. Made in the United States, many garments are made without seams, where one piece of fabric sourced from Italy or Japan wraps the body like rising smoke. I got the chance to preview the Verlaine fall 2011 collection, and I was blown away by its abstruse beauty.
You can purchase the Verlaine collection in New York City at Kirna Zabete and Pas De Deux.
